How to Play Three Card Poker
As its name suggests, the game is played with only three cards. It is really two games in one: "Pair Plus" and "Ante and Play". The player can choose to play only one or both games in each round.
There is no continuous betting in Three Card Poker. You play against the dealer and the better hand wins.
In "Pair Plus" the player and dealer make their initial bets. Three cards are dealt to each one. A pair or better wins. If there are no pairs then the hand with the highest card wins.
In the second game, "Ante and Play", the player places an ante bet, in addition to his initial bet, before he receives his cards. If he thinks his cards are better than the dealer's, he raises with an additional bet equal to the ante. To meet the raise the dealer must have a "qualifying" hand, meaning a queen high combination or better, in order to "see" the player's hand. If the dealer's hand does not qualify, the player wins. If it does qualify, the hand with the highest value wins.
The hand rankings for 3 Card Poker are slightly different than in other poker variations where at least 5 cards are played. The hand rankings are as follows:
Straight Flush - 3 cards of the same suit in sequence. This is very hard to get in 3 Card Poker and is, therefore, the highest hand.
Three of a Kind - 3 cards of the same denomination
Straight - 3 cards from any suit in numerical sequence
Flush - Any 3 cards of the same suit
Ace High - A combination of an Ace and any other 2 cards
King High - A King and any 2 cards with a lower value
Queen High - A Queen and any 2 cards with a lower value
